I first met Phil Fogarty, the owner of the local Weed Man franchise, 4 years ago, at a franchise networking event held at a Cleveland law office. Phil is one of those guys who reaches out to shake your hand, before you even have a chance to tell your brain to fire up your hand shaking neurons. Another words, Phil is super friendly, and is anxious to learn about what it is that you do.
For the past 13 years, Phil has sponsored a "service day" at Washington DC's Arlington National Cemetery. Nearly 4 million people visit the cemetery every year. It is an amazing place.
Phil is a man with a mission. He is obviously grateful for what he has, and seems to have an intense need to give back. In this case, he travels up to Washington DC along with 400 other landscape and yard care workers, from 27 different states, to do some major lawn maintenance on some of the over 200 acres of grass at this very important, historical place.
You can read the entire article over at The Cleveland Plain Dealer's website, Cleveland.com
Phil does other Green things. He started something called GreenCare for Troops.
"Lawn and landscape maintenance becomes a definite hardship when a family's major breadwinner is on active duty away from home. GreenCare for Troops is designed to show the green industry's concern for this situation, helping affected families maintain their homes' green spaces." {From the GreenCare for troops website}
Phil's concern for the families of troops stationed in other parts of the world, who are fighting to protect our freedom is a great thing. To date, Project EverGreen has signed up more than 7,700 military families and over 2,100 green industry professionals and volunteers to assist in this effort.
If you happen to know a landscape professional who would like to help out a military family in his or her own neighborhood, please tell them about this, and send them this link!
I knew I liked Phil.
Please subscribe to this blog. You'll be glad you did.
