Does harnessing the awesome power of our closest star sound like one solution for our ever increasing energy needs?
Does owning a business that sells and installs Solar Panels sound like a business that you may be interested in?
That's what I thought....
One such company that is offering opportunities in Solar Power, is doing it via the franchise model. This could be a great thing...
{Solar Panels almost done being installed on this house!}
I talked with Joe Bono, the COO, and co-founder of Solar Universe, via phone, last week, and asked him a couple of questions. Joe was gracious enough to answer them, although it was obvious that his company was getting swamped with inquiry's.
The Franchise King: "Joe, I happen to live in the Midwest. I am not that familiar with the solar energy model, although with the amount of inquiry's this blog receives concerning alternative energy, one would think I would have learned a lot about it by now. One question that keeps coming up concerns the Midwest. Joe, is there enough sunlight here year round to generate power from Solar Panel collection?"
Joe: "Joel, there is more than enough sunlight to power up your home, with our solar appliance, SunGen.™ Lots of factors go into converting a home to solar power. One must look at the total investment."
The Franchise King: " I'm sure you receive lots of information requests from prospective Solar Universe franchise owners. What are some of the traits that you look for in a prospective Solar Universe franchise owner?"
Joe: "We look for folks that have an outgoing personality. Our franchise owners really need to be a positive, energetic group. A lot of the business is really sales and marketing. Not only does one have to be well versed in solar technology {Solar Universe will train you} but, one must be very comfortable asking for the sale. If a franchisee doesn't sell the SunGen™ system to the homeowner, then the business doesn't grow."
I have found that a lot of franchise concepts require one to be comfortable with the sales and marketing aspect. As a matter of fact, there are franchise concepts out there that don't look like they would be sales and marketing related, but in reality, are. Make sure you are the right fit for the franchise that you are thinking about investing in!
Here are some interesting facts about solar power:
- A well designed solar system needs clear access to the sun with limited or no shading issues.
- Solar Panels come with a 25 year warranty. {From Solar Universe}
- Any power that you don't use from your solar electric system literally spins your meter backwards, and you receive a credit from your utility company. This is called "net metering".
So, is a Solar Universe franchise in your future? Do you want to get in on the ground floor of an exciting franchise concept? Do you want to make an impact on our world?
Solar Universe is looking for great franchise owners. They want to grow their franchise system methodically. Not everybody will qualify for this opportunity.

Wind Energy. Did you know that you can use a web hosting company like FatCow that uses 100% Wind Energy to run its servers? Be the change.

I am purchasing a home that includes 2 solar panels measuring 8 foot by 4 foot located on the roof. Neither myself or the home inspector located a box that the solar energy would transferred to. should there be a box? also what can i expect from the solar panels? Thanks for the help...

Thank you for the comment, Solar Energy!
Suggestion:
Your website needs top have an "About" page. I have no idea if your site ios for real, or if it is just an advertising medium. Name, bio, location, etc.
Just a gentle suggestion, of course.

Terrific Q&A for people that are interested in getting into the solar panel business, or just want to install them on their homes or businesses. Green jobs like solar installation and retrofitting are actually one segment of the job market that is growing.

Joe Bono here from Solar Universe. Nice blog Joel! The manufacturer, not solar universe, warranties the panels to produce power at 80% of their original rating for 25 years. Solar Universe offers a bumper-to-bumper warranty on workmanship for 10years. What a deal!
The best part about our business is that we love what we do. There are many business opportunities out there, but few can claim they are changing the world. Every day we help homeowners and businesses achieve true energy independence - its very rewarding.
