So, I am conducting business in my office, fielding phone calls, setting up strategic partnerships, and I get a phone call from a company in Florida.............
"We are looking for a Franchise Expert for a television show that airs on Oxygen, a Women's cable channel. We will be discussing franchises, and already have 7 franchise companies for the show, and need an expert to chime in on the subject of franchising."
I asked the young lady {The "producer"} how she found me, and she said their R+D Dept. must have found me because of some interviews I have done in the past. Media_biography.doc
As we went along, the young lady asked me a little about myself, in questions that I feel were meant to pump my ego. {It worked!}
So we get towards the end of this cute little phone call, and I am feeling pretty good, and am expecting to be asked to come down to Fl. and film this, and this young lady asks me if my firm has a budget for what she called national media sessions. I asked what she meant by that.
She said" Well since we only do the production for channels like Oyxgen, the experts and companies that are interviewed each pay Nine Thousand Dollars to us."
After I dusted myself off, after slipping off my reclining faux leather office chair, and picked the phone back up, I asked her to repeat the little scenario to me. She did.
I told her I have never been solicited by any type of company to pay for an interview, and that I was extremely unhappy about wasting 10 minutes on the phone with her, and her company, Crown Point
Productions. {They do not get a link..you can look em up...}
I even asked her what her title was again, and if she was paid a $commission$ for signing folks like me on. Her answer:
"I am a producer." Yeah. Right.
So in summation, if there are any other "experts" that are reading this, be careful that you don't let your ego win you over, and get sucked in by what is in my opinion, a sales pitch.
